Holy Cross College breaks ground on new athletic complex
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Holy Cross College hosted a groundbreaking Thurs. afternoon, marking the start of phase one construction for its athletic complex expansion.
Expecting to finish the project by Fall 2025, the expansion will bring the current field, one that does not meet the needs of a four-year college, a whole new life.
They will install a first-ever stadium lighting system, which will let students play and practice during the night. Since the start of the soccer programs 15 years ago, student athletes have only been able to play when the sun is up.
“We need to make sure we have room to play… so we’ll kind of reserve the time between four and six and that’s for… team. So…we won’t have any classes,” said a sophomore at Holy Cross College and captain for the Women’s Soccer Team, Abigail Fouts.
They will also get a new electronic scoreboard and a new chain link fence to tie everything together. The complex is bringing together the past, present, and future; all in one new field.
“A foundation we’re building for future generations of Saints to come. This new space will undoubtedly become a hub of energy, sportsmanship, and community. A place where student grow in excellence and purpose and in joy. But this moment is not the end, it’s really just the beginning,” said Holy Cross College President, Dr. Marco Clark.
