Heightened security and protesters paint the scene for day one of the DNC in Chicago

CHICAGO -- Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Police Department are preparing for the Democratic National Convention with the hopes of keeping everything safe for party members, guests, and even the numerous journalists covering the event.

ABC57's Julianne Grohowski is reporting live from the DNC where she says security is very tight and that most of the protests are taking place at Union Park, about a half mile away from the convention center.

As night falls on the windy city, the peaceful scene could change. Stick with ABC57 for tonight's events as well as coverage all week long.
