SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Harrison Elementary School in South Bend handed out 500 family care packages on April 14. A line of families wrapped around the school to get one of the boxes which contained essential items like household cleaning products, food, and personal hygiene items.
The school’s principal said the staff misses their students and have been trying to find ways to stay connected with them.
“We still think about our kids. We still think about the people that we are serving. So this is just an opportunity to kind of let them know that we’re still thinking about them and that we miss them and that whenever we can, we can’t wait to see them,” said Principal of Harrison Elementary Karla Lee.
Due to the large turnout, the elementary said it is already planning a second event and will host several more while there are families in need.
