GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Goshen Public Library announced a full calendar of programs and events to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the community.

“I am so incredibly excited to be able to learn, celebrate, and share with our community the different cultures and traditions that are essential to making our community unique,” said Adriana Martinez Diaz de Leon, a Community Outreach Specialist at the library.

Along with the traditional themed book displays in each department, library officials say they will be sharing cultural information from Hispanic nations at a display table in the lobby.

Every week the display will showcase recipes, music, authors, and other information from all over the world.

Organizers say visitors can engage further with any piece that catches their interest by checking out library resources like an online database, book, or CD.

The children’s department will present Paint and Sip Family Night on Sept. 24 at 6 p.m., hosted by local artists Sandra Y. Pérez and Paula Toth-Pérez.

The mother-daughter duo will guide participants in an art project, with aguas frescas available to sip.

There will be three free movie nights for teens and adults on Sept. 16, 30, and Oct. 14.

Each of the selected films explores identity and stories from different Latin American and Hispanic cultures.

The library also welcomes back Mariachi ECo, a youth string ensemble launched in Fall 2023 that plays traditional mariachi music.

The ensemble, led by Hillary Harder, Community School of the Arts Program Director, will present a musical performance at the library on Oct. 19 at 11 a.m.

The event is free and open to the public. There will also be refreshments from local business Gutierrez Bakery.

“We hope that each person who visits the library this month finds something that meaningfully reflects their own life and values,” said Grace Thomas, Development & Community Engagement Manager. “That’s the goal every day, but especially when there’s an excuse for celebration!”

You can find further details on upcoming events on the library's website.
