UPDATE: FBI activity in Berrien County results in arrests plus seizure of weapons, drugs

UPDATE TWO: The FBI responded to ABC57 with the following statement:

"The Department of Justice policy is to neither confirm nor deny if we are conducting an investigation. As a general matter, allegations of criminal conduct are reviewed by the FBI for their merit, but such a review does not necessarily result in the opening of a full investigation."

UPDATE: Berrien County Sheriff Chuck Heit reports the FBI activity in the county Wednesday involved the execution of 14 search warrants.

This resulted in three people arrested for federal charges and one person on state charges.

A total of five guns were recovered, one of which was stolen.

A plethora of drugs, including 1g of meth, 2,550g of fentanyl and heroin, 15 oz of codeine syrup, 2 pounds of marijuana, 4.2g of crack cocaine, 603g of cocaine, along with two pill presses and a kilo press were seized.

Heit stated that several of the targeted individuals were under investigation for years, including people from Michigan, California and Tennessee.

The tactical response unit was also deployed along with three K9s and FBI members who worked directly with them.

There are also 10 federal indictments expected for individuals after this operation.

ORIGINAL STORY: BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- An FBI spokesperson confirmed to ABC57 that personnel from the FBI in Michigan were in multiple areas throughout Berrien County Wednesday, conducting law enforcement activities.

The FBI also confirmed the activities aren't immigration-related.

Officials say there is no threat to public safety.

The spokesperson added they cannot disclose exactly why they are present due to U.S. Department of Justice policies.
