Father and son arrested for allegedly killing woman's dogs

John and Hayden Lowe

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports a father and son were arrested following an animal death investigation stemming from an Oct. 21 911 call.

The report states a pet owner in the 5100-west block of C.R. 150 North told authorities she found her beagle dead on a nearby property.

The beagle had sustained a fatal injury to its ribcage.

The woman stated her other dog, a chocolate labrador, was still missing.

An investigation began the next day, Oct. 22, during which an interview with a hunter led to deputies being told not only was 58-year-old John H. Lowe responsible for the beagle's death, but also the chocolate lab's.

Further investigation determined John's son, 22-year-old Hayden M. C. Lowe, had allegedly discarded the lab at another location.

The findings were given to the La Porte County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and to the La Porte Circuit Court where probable cause was found and warrants were issued for the Lowes.

The father and son were both arrested and booked into the La Porte County Jail.

John is charged with two counts of Killing a Domestic Animal, Level 6 Felonies, and one count of Obstruction of Justice, a Level 6 Felony.

Hayden is charged with Obstruction of Justice, a Level 6 Felony.

The pair were released from jail after cash bonds were paid on their behalf.
