ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a residence in the 53000 block of C.R. 17 for a two-vehicle crash around 3:51 p.m., Monday.
The report states a 2024 Ford E-350, driven by 21-year-old Austin Custer of Syracuse, was traveling north on C.R. 17, north of C.R. 10, when he slowed down to a stop in the left turn lane, to turn west into the driveway of a residence.
Authorities say at the same time, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 75-year-old Cromwell, Ind. man, was traveling south on C.R. 17 in the east lane, while passing said residence's driveway.
At that point, Custer turned directly in front of the Silverado, leaving no time to avoid a collision.
The Silverado crashed into Custer's rear passenger side at the rear wheel.
The Silverado's passenger, a 75-year-old Wolcottville woman, suffered a chest injury from the crash. She was treated on scene before being taken to Elkhart General Hospital for further treatment.
Custer was cited for Bodily Injury - Failure of Vehicle Making Left Turn at Intersection to Yield Right of Way.
