SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Portage Township Trustee, Jason Critchlow, held a press conference Tuesday to sound the alarm on a possible hold in the processing of SNAP benefits.
The pause, which would be put in place Nov. 1, is because of the ongoing federal government shutdown.
More than 600,000 Hoosiers use SNAP benefits, including 30,000 people in St. Joe County and 20,000 residents in South Bend alone.
Critchlow suggests SNAP users spread out whatever EBT funds they have left for the month of October, as those won’t expire.
He also suggests exploring food pantry options in your area if you or your family is in need of assistance.
Anyone who needs help finding out what they qualify for can also call 211.
