Dogs found emaciated and dehydrated, deputies seek Animal Cruelty charges against owner

ABC 57

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Cass County Sheriff's Office reports the Animal Control Division received two dogs reportedly found as strays in the 10000 block of Pioneer Street in Marcellus Township on Sept. 30.

Authorities say the dogs were emaciated and dehydrated and one of them appeared to be blind.

The dogs were taken to Bergman's Veterinary Medical Center and found to have no parasites or other factors that would cause their condition besides lack of care, according to the official report.

Deputies say Cass County Animal Control has been working with doctors and staff at Bergman’s taking care of the dogs.

Authorities say the dogs have gained weight and are now healthy enough to receive vaccines.

The blind dog will need to have her eyes surgically removed.

During the investigation the owner was identified, and the sheriff's office has requested charges.

The charges are currently pending at the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspect’s name is withheld pending arraignment on the charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
