ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Humane Society needs your help after it dealt with a hoarding case.
More than 20 dogs were rescued from the situation in Concord Township over the weekend, pushing the shelter to full capacity. Now, adoptions are completely waived to try and help these animals and others.
If adoption isn’t an option, there are still ways to help. Anyone interested in fostering can fill out an application on the Humane Society’s website.
This story hits close to home for ABC57’s Giselle Valentin, who adopted her dog, Lalo, from the Elkhart Humane Society two years ago calling him her best friend.
"I always like to say when you adopt an animal, you're saving two lives. So, the first one is the one you bring home, and of course that's the best part. But then that kennel that the dog was in is now empty. And so, somebody else who needs that spot can go right into there. It's really a two for one. You're helping two animals and free is fantastic," said Elkhart Humane Society Community Development Manager Maria Waltersdorf.
