EF-2 tornado confirmed in St. Joseph County, Michigan

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. - Late Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service determined that an EF-2 tornado with maximum winds of 130 mph moved through St. Joseph County early Tuesday evening.

The tornado first touched down on the south side of Centerville and tracked northeast, passing through the north side of Colon.

It then tracked into Branch County and lifted near Union Lake.

The tornado was on the ground for nearly 20 miles, had max wind speeds of 130 mph, and had a maximum width of 950 yards. That is the length of eight football fields end zone to end zone.

The community continues to rebuild as crews work around the clock to restore power and clear trees.
