Tuesday's confirmed EF-1 tornado leaves damage behind in Twin Lakes
TWIN LAKES, Mich. - Twin Lakes is a mixture of locals and vacationers in Cass County and the common statement made to ABC57 was that they've never seen anything like this storm come through their town.
The tornado which touched down Tuesday, is now confirmed to have been an EF-1 by the National Weather Service.
Crews are continuing to work around the clock to clean up downed trees while local roads are still closed.
It is so bad, that officials have been telling residents it might be weeks before power is fully restored here.
Charlene Browne has been living here for almost 10 years, and Tuesday her pole barn took heavy damage, with the barn roof blown into the neighbor's yard and trees down everywhere.
She was shocked at how quickly the storm came through.
Browne said, "Within a few minutes, we went downstairs, and it was pouring rain. I couldn't hardly see out the windows because the rain was so hard. And you could just see the trees moving back and forth. And back and over in like, five minutes if that we went outside, and it's just devastation all over trees fallen."
Some people weren’t here for the storm at their vacation homes here. It’s good that some weren’t home when those storms moved through.
Paul Scheppe spoke with us about a vacation home that’s been in the family since 1941, and he's lucky he wasn't there Tuesday.
He says that they got a call from their neighbor that night saying that their beloved home was essentially split in half.
Scheppe stated, "We were supposed to be here next weekend, we had been up here the previous week cleaning and getting ready for the season. And now we don't have a season."
Although the home was destroyed, the memories that the family had at the cottage remain, and they are determined to make more still.
