SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Common Council is currently accepting applications to serve on the newly created Police and Fire Merit Boards.

There are two separate boards and applicants can apply to serve on one or both boards. If applying for both, applicants must submit two separate applications.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, be a resident of South Bend, and may not be an active member of a police or fire department.

The deadline to submit an application is 4 p.m. on February 12.
