ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to C.R. 36 east of C.R. 35 for a single-vehicle crash on Tuesday around 1:57 p.m.

The report states a 2018 Ford Escape, driven by a 26-year-old LaGrange man, was traveling east on C.R. 36, approaching a horse-drawn buggy also traveling east.

Authorities say the Escape then went left of center to pass the buggy when another vehicle was heading west on C.R. 36.

The Escape avoided the other vehicle and the buggy by going off the north side of the road, crashing into a mailbox, and a concrete drainage ditch.

The driver was treated on scene by medics for non-life-threatening injuries, including a laceration to his face/head.
