ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to Jefferson and Third Streets in New Paris around 8:55 a.m., Monday, for a head-on crash between two vehicles.

The report states a 2018 Nissan Rogue, driven by 58-year-old Charles Watkins II of Goshen, was traveling west on Third Street, approaching Jefferson Street.

At the same time, a 2000 Ford F250, driven by a 20-year-old Nappanee man, was traveling north on Jefferson Street, approaching Third Street.

Authorities say that's when Watkins drove left of center, cutting into the northbound lane while entering the curve leading south onto Jefferson Street. This resulted in a head-on collision between the vehicles.

Watkins was taken to Goshen General Hospital for treatment of chest pains.

Watkins was also cited for Driving Left of Center.

The other driver was uninjured.
