Driver cited for disregarding stop sign in two-vehicle crash
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to S.R. 120 and C.R. 35 around 4:23 a.m., Wednesday for a two-vehicle crash.
The report states the weather was clear and the road surface was dry at the time.
Authorities say a 2009 Nissan Maxima, driven by 25-year-old Bryan Eduardo Perez Acosta of Elkhart, was traveling south on C.R. 35.
A 2014 Ford F150, driven by a 64-year-old Elkhart man, was traveling east on S.R. 120.
The report states Acosta was approaching the intersection of S.R. 120.
The Ford was also approaching the same intersection.
Authorities say Acosta then disregarded the stop sign at the intersection at a high rate of speed.
Acosta then struck the front end of the Ford, which had the right of way.
The Ford then collided with the passenger side of Acosta before both vehicles drove off the southern edge of the road before coming to a stop.
Acosta was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with complaints of head, neck, chest, and back pain.
Acosta was cited for disregarding a stop sign. Acosta's passenger, Caleb Skaggs, was also taken to the hospital with a suspected broken left arm and wrist after being extracted from the vehicle.
The 64-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with complaints of chest pain.
