Indiana Dunes National Park

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. -- Officials with the Indiana Dunes National Park announced construction has begun on a segment of the Marquette Greenway Trail which stretches between the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education in Gary and the entrance to the park’s West Beach in Portage.

Officials say the nearly three-mile-long section of paved trail is part of the greater Marquette Greenway project stretching from Chicago to New Buffalo.

The construction is expected to last through the remainder of 2025 according to park officials.

For visitor safety, the trailheads at Grand Boulevard, Montgomery Street, and County Line Road will be closed during construction.
