Child injured in single car accident

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office was called to an accident that happened Saturday afternoon around 2:40 p.m. The incident happened on Driftwood Drive just 1 mile west of Elkhart city limits.

Brenda Waire, 70-year-old resident of Elkhart, was traveling west on Driftwood Drive just east of County Road 3.

10-year-old Antayvion Massey was in front of his home and ran across the road to the south.

Massey sideswiped the vehicle and was struck by the passenger side mirror.

Massey was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for leg pain. His injuries were non-life threatening, though he did lose a tooth.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

Waire was uninjured and was not cited.
