30-year-old Winamac man charged with several felonies including domestic battery

PULASKI COUNTY, Ind. -- The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office reports they received a call on Tuesday from the Knox Police Department regarding a domestic dispute that began in Pulaski County.

The report states a woman had fled the residence under duress and made it to Knox where she called law enforcement.

Deputies taking the report say there were clear signs that an altercation occurred.

The incident was alleged to have involved a firearm, threats of self-harm and harm to others, and alcohol was a factor.

Authorities then obtained probable cause arrest for the suspect, 30-year-old Leonard Salyer of Winamac.

A search warrant for the residence was also obtained. Deputies then traveled to the residence to execute the search warrant.

Prior to units arriving at the residence, the report states drone support was utilized to allow law enforcement to receive real-time footage of the situation in the residence.

Once on scene, deputies made announcements and attempted negotiations.

Authorities say lights, intermittent sirens, loudspeakers, and various announcements continued to be made with no response from inside.

Using shields, deputies then approached and opened the door to the residence.

Deputies made more announcements with no response.

Utilizing a first-person drone, deputies flew it into the home to locate the Salyer.

The drone was able to pinpoint Salyer and give deputies real-time information of his location and movements.

K9 Tiko was then sent into the home before any deputies.

Tiko went inside and located Salyer, keeping him in place long enough for deputies to enter and take him into custody.

Once detained, deputies say Salyer began to resist and push them.

Salyer was taken to the Pulaski County Justice Center on charges of Confinement, a Level 3 Felony, Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony, Domestic Battery, a Level 6 Felony, and Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor.
