Zakiya Jennings, Multimedia Journalist
Zakiya Jennings joined the ABC57 team in January 2026 as a Multimedia Journalist.
Zakiya was born and raised in Somerset, New Jersey. Zakiya received her bachelor's degree from the largest HBCU in Maryland, Morgan State University, where she majored in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Political Science. During her collegiate experience, she interned at the #1 station in Baltimore, WBAL-TV 11 News, reported for all three of the university's media outlets, and covered President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and both candidates for governor which includes current Governor Wes Moore.
Zakiya comes from an NBC affiliate in Delaware where she covered stories ranging from hate crimes, the confirmation of a new Pope, senate bills as well as housing and development stories. Most notably, she broke a story about a state representative that was never sworn in, leaving an entire district with no representation during the legislative session. In 2025, she was nominated for an AP Award for Outstanding Serious Feature where she placed second.
Outside of work, Zakiya loves to hang out with her friends, take pictures, try new restaurants, spend time outdoors, and watch documentaries and women's basketball. She is also an off-campus advisor for an organization she co-founded in college called Students Against Sexual Harassment and Assault.
Zakiya is excited to be part of the Michiana community and give a voice to those who live here.
