Why do we sweat on hot days?

NOW: Why do we sweat on hot days?

Have you ever wondered why you sweat? Well, the short answer is the sweat cools you off, the longer answer has to do with latent heat, transfer of energy, and evaporative cooling.

But the medium answer is this: When your body gets hot it produces water, and that water holds heat. Now as that water starts to heat up more it starts to evaporate off your body, and since it can hold heat, it takes some of the heat off of you as well.

On more humid days, the sweat can’t evaporate, leaving you feeling sticky. So, if you are planning on going out today, try to avoid strenuous activity, and drink a lot of water so that your body can stay hydrated, and produce more sweat to cool you off.

Since the storms that passed through Michiana on Wednesday and brought the lake surface temperatures to an equalized level, the temperatures have really sky rocketed.

Both observation sites in Michigan City, Ind. and Holland, Mich. showing a fairly steady increase. Now water temperatures on the lakeshore in Berrien County are still right around that high 60s - low 70s, so still might be cold for some, but definitely refreshing compared to this heat.
