Whirlpool and MCWT empowers future innovators through STEM camp for girls
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- A local summer camp is empowering young girls through hands-on experiences in stem.
Camp Infinity is a week-long camp that welcomes girls in fifth through eighth grade, teaching them everything from coding, robotics, and web design.
"We want girls to take away that message that they can do it too in future, that they can, they can feel empowered to pursue a technology career and see themselves doing something similar,” Senior Cyber Security Person at Whirlpool Corporation.
Lakshmi Gudimella said, "The camp is a part of a bigger mission led by the Michigan Council of Women in Technology to get more women into tech."
"Even though women represent 50 percent of the workforce. We are, depending on which study you look at, anywhere from 24 to 26 percent of the tech workforce. And so, any opportunity that we have to reach young women and to maybe open their eyes to this possibility of a career. It's an important thing to do for lots of reasons,” Program Manager at Michigan Council of Women in Technology Tammy Doroshewitz said.
