Here are just a few of the events and activities going on in the Michiana area this weekend.

MLK Jr. Dream Center hosting Black History Skate Night Feb. 16

Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center

The Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center in South Bend is encouraging community members to lace up their skates and head out to Howard Park on Feb. 16, from noon to 7:30 p.m. for a Black History Skate Night.

Organizers say the event will celebrate Black history and culture through music, skating, community, and a Black History Market.

“We're excited to celebrate Black History Month on ice with Dream Center Presents: Black History Skate Night,” said Phillip Williams, Martin Luther King, Jr. Dream Center Program Coordinator. “Ice skating, food trucks, free hot chocolate, performances by Dream Detroit Skating Club, and a market showcasing black-owned businesses. You can't beat it!”

Attendees can take park in themed skate sessions, including a live DJ spinning Motown and gospel music, performances, and a curated market featuring local Black-owned businesses and vendors. Food trucks will be on-site, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere for all.

'Music in the Movies PAW Cabaret 2025' Saturday night in Niles

Performing Arts Workshops

The Performing Arts Workshops announced their show "Music in the Movies – PAW Cabaret 2025" will take place on Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m.

Organizers invite the community to an evening of live performances inspired by fan favorite films, from heartwarming classics to blockbuster hits.

The performance will take place at Brandywine High School Lecture Hall at 1700 Bell Rd. in Niles.

Tickets are $10 and available at the door.

Attendees can enjoy concessions, participate in the silent auction.

Organizers encourage you to bring your friends and family for a night of fun.

Beacon hosting 9th Annual Locked in Solidarity event Feb. 16

The Beacon Resource Center is holding an event this week to raise awareness about the broader impact violence can have on communities and how to promote healing.

The Locked in Solidarity event, which is free and open to all members of the public, will take place on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Beacon Resource Center (4210 Lincoln Way West) in South Bend.

Registration is not required.

"This annual event, part of a national initiative, seeks to raise awareness about the broader impacts of violence and promote healing within communities. The theme of this year’s event, 'Interrupting Violence,' will explore violence in its many forms—physical, mental, and emotional—and feature local organizations working to address violence in South Bend," organizers said.

"South Bend faces significant challenges with harm, ranging from gun violence and systemic injustice to mental and emotional trauma. Locked in Solidarity offers an opportunity for the community to unite and engage in the work of interrupting these cycles, fostering healing, and promoting restorative justice."
