SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- More mild conditions are expected Wednesday in Michiana, thanks to the high pressure headed our way. The mild conditions extend to the water as well, with the green flag flying across Michiana beaches.
Since this past weekend, the red flag has been out, and swimming has been restricted on some beaches. Monday morning in fact, along the coast in Michiana, saw wave heights anywhere from six to 10 feet at the max.
That 10-foot maximum was hit in Michigan City right around 1 a.m. Monday, and around the same time the buoy by the Cook Nuclear Plant hit around six feet and stayed around that height for most of the day on Monday.
Again, with the high-pressure system that’s bringing warmer conditions today, we are likely going to see some calmer waves thanks to a different wind direction, but is that going to be sticking with us through this holiday weekend?
With a cold front passing through Thursday, we are expecting to see the red flag out once again.
Moderate swim risk is expected Friday, with wave heights decreasing to one to two feet, or around one foot on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
With the slight warm up we're going to be seeing, the beach might be the place to be to get that one last taste of summer this weekend.
