St. Joseph County, IN. -- The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office officially charged the suspect involved in a police chase and deadly crash early Wednesday. 

Tyler Straub faces three charges following a police chase and crash on Wednesday St. Joseph County Jail

Tyler Straub, 31, of Mishawaka is now facing the following charges:

• Count 1: Resisting law enforcement causing death, a level 3 felony
• Count 2: Resisting law enforcement, a level 5 felony
• Count 3: Operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license, a class A misdemeanor

Straub is currently in custody at the St. Joseph County Jail and is expected to be arraigned on Friday. 

The incident took place early Wednesday morning when South Bend Police attempted to stop a stolen GMC Sierra near South and Fellows Streets. Officials said the suspect vehicle, allegedly driven by Straub, failed to stop and led to a chase. 

Police said less than a minute after the officer activated their emergency lights, Straub disregarded a red light and collided with a Chevy Cruze at the intersection of Sample Street and Michigan Street in South Bend. 

The driver of the Cruze, Pedro Rosales, 58 of South Bend, died from his injuries. 

Police also arrested Janet Binion, who was a passenger in the vehicle with Straub. 

According to court documents, Straub was wanted on a warrant for Invasion of Privacy, and two counts of Criminal Mischief filed on Dec. 25, 2025.

He was also charged on May 24, 2024, with Resisting Law Enforcement - def. intentionally flees. He pleaded guilty and spent 30 days in county jail. 

Binion was wanted on a warrant in Pulaski County for Driving while Suspended w/prior conviction. Documents state she failed to appear at her change of plea hearing on Nov. 25, 2025, which led to a warrant. She then missed her bench trial on Dec. 17, 2025.
