Victim identified in deadly Elkhart fire

ELKHART, Ind. --Elkhart police have identified the man who died in that tragic apartment fire in Elkhart Tuesday morning as 18-year-old Christyan Cortez of Elkhart.

His dog also died in the fire, which is still under investigation.

Firefighters battled the blaze on Myrtle Street for about 30 minutes,

After getting it under control they searched the house and found Cortez and the dog.

Investigators say another man was able to escape through a second story window and he was not hurt.
