Local art collective's mural outside Kingpin Lanes nears completion

PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- A new mural is almost done at Kingpin Lanes in Plymouth, and it's got an ode to one of bowling's most well know characters right in the middle of it.

"It's an American classic," said Grant Holm, owner of Kingpin Lanes.

When Plymouth native Grant Holm purchased Kingpin Lanes three years ago, he didn't envision a giant mural on the side of his building but he's pretty thrilled about it.

Holm says it's an opportunity to showcase his Plymouth pride.

"I take a lot of pride in this mural, I take a lot of pride in this bowling alley, my family has always been big community people across Plymouth for decades, for 50 years, and so, I wanted to see how I can give back in my own way," said Holm.

The work began last summer, as artists from Heartland Art Center in Plymouth began showcasing their talents.

Anna Kietzman is one of five artists that have been dedicating their time, and she's having a ton of fun putting it together.

"It's been a blast, we've had a lot of fun really trying to narrow down who the figures were going to be, but then, once it's really started to come alive, these colors are incredible, there is so much energy behind it, and I think that when we get people showing up, and we put the paintbrush on the wall, we just have the best time," said Kietzman.

Kietzman and her team got to work, paying homage to one of the most well-known bowling movies of all time. You might say the mural really ties the whole alley together.

"The Big Lebowski is an ode to bowling, and it's an American classic, just like a lot of these other individuals that are up here, right? They're icons, they're American icons, that've stood the test of time, and so has the Lebowski, right? It doesn't matter if you're my kids or if you're my parents, they know the movie," said Holm.

"It's just really about music, and coming together, and celebrating arts and culture, and then, do they really mix with the Big Lebowski? I don't know, but at the same time, this is kind of a wacky wild project, and we wanted it to be fun," said Kietzman.
