Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office K9 Quillen to get donation of body armor
VAN BUREN, Mich - - One of Van Buren County's own got a special gift this Christmas thanks to a charitable donation.
Van Buren County Sheriff's officer K9 Quillen is set to receive a brand-new bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a donation from non-profit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest weighs an average of 4-5 lbs. and is valued at around $1800.00. Quillen's vest is expected to be delivered in early March.
According to Van Buren County Sheriff's Office "Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States."
The program is open to any active-duty law enforcement K9's 20 months or older working with certified law enforcement or related agencies. The K9 vests go for a donation of $985 but the charity accepts contributions in any amount.
