MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.—Officials in Michigan City are urging beach goers to use marked trails to help curb damage being done to area sand dunes.

Michigan City’s Parks and Recreation Department is asking that visitors use designated trails instead of unmarked “social” trails.

These “social” trails are contributing to long-lasting damage to the dunes, the city said.

Multiple designated trails have beach mats for ease of use and access.

Beach mats are located on the California, Louisiana, Georgia and Illinois Avenue beach paths.
