Two people in serious condition following pursuit, crash

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – Two people are in serious condition following a pursuit and crash in Michigan City on Monday, Indiana State Police reported.

At 2:30 p.m., the Michigan City Police Department was called for a report of an auto theft in progress in the 3400 block of Franklin Street.

An officer located the vehicle, a gold 1996 Oldsmobile Aurora, as it was leaving the scene.

The officer then initiated a pursuit on the Aurora.

The chase moved through the city and eventually traveled north from Coolspring Avenue to Hoyt Street.

The suspect allegedly ignored the stop sign at the intersection of Hoyt Street and Earl Road, striking a red 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that had the right-of-way, reports said.

Both the driver of the Aurora and the Monte Carlo were taken from the scene for treatment as a result of the crash.

The driver of the Monte Carlo was later flown to a hospital for life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, a 17-year-old, is still in the hospital for serious injuries.
