NOW: Two adults, one juvenile charged with Assault and Battery for high school basketball incident with referee

DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- The Cass County Prosecutor's Office announced three people have been charged following a post-game incident from Feb. 26, a district semi-final high school boys’ basketball game between Benton Harbor and Buchannan at Dowagiac Union High School.

A video of the incident shows items being thrown at a referee before he is escorted safely off the court by police.

Twenty-eight-year-old Devontae Jones is charged with one 93-day misdemeanor count of Assault and Battery and one 90-day misdemeanor count of Disturbing the Peace.

Forty-three-year-old Vallen Johnson is charged with two 93-day misdemeanor counts of Assault and Battery and one 90-day misdemeanor count of Disturbing the Peace.

Officials say a juvenile has also been charged with one misdemeanor count of Assault and Battery and one misdemeanor count of Disturbing the Peace.

The juvenile resides outside Cass County, so it's expected this matter will, by law, be transferred by the Cass County Juvenile Court to the Juvenile Court system in the county in which the juvenile resides.
