Notre Dame steamrolls Purdue, 49-10, for 14th consecutive win

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- No. 3 Notre Dame steamrolls Purdue, 49-10, for their 14th consecutive win. The Irish’s first drive went just 4 plays, but then they scored on their next four consecutive drives.  It was a near perfect first half for Notre Dame, who averaged nearly 9 yards per play and led 35-0 at the break.

The Irish established the run in West Lafayette with 177 yards on 32 carries. Running back Aneyas Williams led the way with a rushing touchdown and 80 yards on the ground.  Quarterback CJ Carr threw for 237 yards, 3 TDs and his first interception of the season. Carr and the ND receiving corps averaged 16.7 yards per completion.

On defense, the Fighting Irish simply overwhelmed the Boilermakers offensive line. Notre Dame tallied 6 sacks, 4 quarterback hurries, and 9 tackles for loss.  Chris Ash’s defensive unit now has 9 takeaways on the season, which is top-5 in FBS.  They have only allowed 33 points through four games this season.

Notre Dame moves to 4-0 on the season.  They will start October with a perfect record for the first time since 2021.  Up next is a trip to Chapel Hill for a road game against Bill Belichick’s UNC Tar Heels.
