ORIGINAL STORY: As of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, thousands of Michiana residents remain without power due to Sunday night's severe weather and two confirmed tornadoes.
Midwest Energy & Communications announced restoration work continued overnight and now reports 3,500 customers without power as of Tuesday morning.
MEC officials say crews and contractors have identified 90 broken poles, making this storm one of the largest in years for the company.
Officials say the most significant outages are in the townships of Milton, Jefferson, Calvin, Silver Creek, and Hamilton.

MEC stated Tuesday morning that they hope to have 95 percent of their customers restored by late Wednesday.
Officials note that some customers with extenuating circumstances will have outages carry over into Thursday.
As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, Indiana Michigan Power announced more then 60 percent of their customers have had their power restored.
Over 21,000 customers remain without power in the South Bend, Elkhart, Buchanan, Benton Harbor, and Three Rivers areas.
I&M officials say the hardest hit areas are St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties in Indiana and St. Joseph and Cass Counties in Michigan.
I&M says they've also discovered 680 individual spans of downed power lines, 241 broken or damaged poles, 40 damaged transformers, and several downed trees.
Officials say their storm response team is monitoring the risk for more severe weather Wednesday across their service area.
I&M officials anticipate 90 percent of their customers to have power restored by 11 p.m. Tuesday.
