This moon is fishy!

I know I am spoiled.  Very spoiled.

Last night I was at Cedar Point, riding the WindSeeker swinging around and around high above the ground with my grandfather and I looked over and spotted the moon.

It was a gorgeous sight with the sun setting.

Even more special this month as we will have two full moons!  And, the coolest part is that they are book ends for August, occurring on the 1st and 31st.

That means we will have a blue moon for the last day of the month!

Anyhow...this is the "Fish Moon"!

Technically it is the Full Sturgeon Moon named for the plentiful fish in the Great Lakes that were caught in this month by the Native Americans.

It is also known as the Red Moon as it tends to have a reddish haze as it rises.

Some other notable nicknames:

The Green Corn Moon, Grain Moon, Fruit Moon, Dog Day's Moon, Harvest Moon, Women's Moon, Moon when all things ripen, Dispute Moon, Lightening Moon, Mating Moon, and the Woodcutter's Moon.

Enjoy!
