      SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- When the Indiana legislature passed Senate Bill 480, banning gender-affirming care for minors, proponents of the bill said there was "no such thing as true informed consent" in gender transition.

      But Hoosier families now forced to go out-of-state for gender therapy argue these medical decisions are not up to the government to decide and come with clinical guidance from experts.

      ABC57 talked to the Nichols family about their own decision to pursue gender-affirming care despite pushback from some members of their community, schools, and state government.
