The evolution of Notre Dame Football season tickets

NOW: The evolution of Notre Dame Football season tickets

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Getting season tickets to Notre Dame football games has never been a simple task.

For decades, access was largely restricted to alumni and select groups.

Then a shift for the 2007 season, the university makes 5,000 additional season tickets available to anyone who wants them. The online application for these tickets: a $50 nonrefundable fee. If demand exceeds 5,000 seats, applicants enter a lottery system, with those directly affiliated with Notre Dame getting first dibs. Keep in mind, this is different than the "general alumni lottery."

That same year, Notre Dame added an annual "ticket rights fee" layered on top of face value. The "real money maker" to help fund repairs at the stadium, according to an article in Notre Dame Magazine (Winter 2006-07).

The "ticket rights fee" is based on seat location:

  • $2,000 per ticket for sideline seats
  • $1,500 for corner seats
  • $1,250 for end zone seats

At this time, anyone who's caught reselling their tickets for profit, had their purchasing privileges revoked.

In 2013, Forbes ranked Notre Dame #1 in the nation for the college with the most expensive average home game football ticket at nearly $294. A more than 43 percent increase compared to tickets listed on the re-sale market in 2012.

In 2017, the $400 million Campus Crossroads Project reshapes Notre Dame Stadium with amenities like club and premium seating.

That season, the university introduced tiered pricing for home game tickets. In a press release, Notre Dame said the new pricing system would "create greater access and affordability for many fans, while increasing prices for the most desirable seats."

Tickets ranging from $45 to $250 depending on the location of the seat and opponent.

The 2017 season also marked a new requirement for season ticket holders. "An annual gift to the University per ticket to gain access to season tickets will also vary by seat location," the school said in a 2017 Stadium Seating Chart press release. "The pricing changes will be revenue neutral, meaning income derived from ticket sales in the stadium bowl in 2017 and 2018 will be the same as it was for last season."

In 2021, Notre Dame transitioned to mobile ticketing with the goal of making it easier for fans to buy, sell and transfer tickets.

Now, we're in the 2025 season. Notre Dame University told ABC57 that season tickets are already sold out after selling a record number for football this year. The university said most single-game tickets are sold out as well, with the showdown against Texas A&M expected to be the most expensive game of the year with the lowest reseal ticket at $423.
