Protestors rally outside Westville Corrections amid death of Amarion Hatch

WESTVILLE, Ind. -- On Saturday, protestors rallied outside of the Westville Corrections facility in light of the death of inmate Amarion Hatch on September 5.

Parents of Hatch and other inmates are seeking solutions for the alleged poor conditions inside of Westville corrections.

Protest Organizer, Samantha Inzer, is very familiar with the conditions because someone very close to her on the inside.

“My fiancé is here,” Inzer said. “It’s completely deteriorated and should be shut down by now. I can’t believe people are still housed here.”

Each of these protestors were there to support their loved ones while making their voices heard about the most recent incident involving Hatch.

For Jamie Warner, who just visited her son at Westville Corrections last weekend, the past couple of months have been the most challenging.

“He’s just been through so much,” Warner said. “A lot of it he just doesn’t want to speak on because it’s a scary thing here, and after the injuries and altercations that he’s been in, I can understand why.”

Family of Amarion Hatch showing up, and many of them carrying pictures of Hatch while trying to make their voices heard.

“He was loved,” a family member shouted. “Ya’ll treat him like he wasn’t loved.”

Officials say that hatch’s autopsy has been performed, and the cause of death is pending.
