Tolson Center for Community Excellence

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Tolson Center for Community Excellence will host the Taste of Africa Festival on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

Organizers invite the community to celebrate the cultural heritage of Africa, with activities including an African fashion runway, live music, and a fine art expose.

The event, held jointly with Kate Joyo, owner and chef at Kate’s Kitchen, aims to bring together people from diverse backgrounds, to celebrate and appreciate African culture, and promote a cross-cultural understanding.

"The richness of Africa is amazing, and being able to provide authentic representation from my native country is a great opportunity,” said Joyo.

Organizers say the event will include traditional African cuisine and Joyo herself will be preparing food.

“We are excited to partner with local entrepreneurs in our community to bring cultural experiences to Tolson and the Benham Neighborhood” said Breanna Allen, Executive Director at Tolson Center.

Besides trying new foods, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase fashion and art.

The Tolson Center is located at 1320 Benham Ave.
