South Bend Community gathers for Cops and Community

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Cops and Community brought the South Bend community together at the Charles Black Community Center for a meal and an opportunity to meet officers.

"You see kids and parents coming in after school, grabbing something to eat, visiting with one of the police officers, and we've done this so often, they're friends already. So, it's, how you been? and, how's your kids? And, how's your kids doing? And to me, the joy is just to watch the friendships," said Thomas J. Gryp, the President and CEO of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union.

This event was sponsored by the Notre Dame Federal Credit Union and gave community members a chance to have a conversation with Police without a stressful environment.

"Events like this is actually a low-stress environment, so that way you can actually have conversations with officers, you know, ask questions that you may have been wondering about, and just being transparent with people in our community," said Jarveair Bourn, sergeant with the South Bend Police Department.

"It's an opportunity for the local police to get with people in various neighborhoods and just get together, have a little fellowship, have some good food," said Gryp.

"Every time we come to these events, it may be somebody new that wants to ask questions and feel comfortable talking with officers, so that's definitely something I enjoy," said Bourn.
