SWET team recovers stolen Dodge Charger in Benton Harbor
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- Primarily a narcotics task force, the Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET) west detectives recovered a 2019 Dodge Charger that was reported stolen out of Kentwood, Mich, in a Benton Harbor garage on Thursday.
SWET was serving a search warrant on a home in the 1200 block of Monroe Street in Benton Harbor after learning the car was somewhere on the property.
Detectives quickly found the car in the garage, but the keys could not be found.
"Evidence suggests this vehicle was being hidden for a third party," authorities said.
The car was seized, and both the vehicle and the investigation were turned over to the Kentwood Police Department.
"Since late 2020, stolen vehicles crimes have increased, and these crimes are often linked to the drug trade," said detective Evan Hauger. "Each year in Southwest Michigan, we lose nearly twice as many lives to fatal drug overdoses as we do to fatal car crashes."
