ELKHART, Ind. -- On August 3 at 11:32 p.m., Elkhart Police responded to a call of a robbery on the 300 block of Harrison Street with a possibly armed suspect.
Upon arrival, they observed a male suspect leaving the residence armed. Inside the apartment, officers found a 57-year-old male with a gunshot wound.
He was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers then located and pursued the male suspect in an alley in the 500 block of S 5th Street.
During the pursuit, the suspect was struck by a police car.
After being struck, the suspect attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody.
The officer also struck a nearby residence, causing minor damage.
The 36-year-old suspect is currently in custody at the hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The firearm that was recovered by police had previously been reported as stolen in Elkhart County.
The officer who was driving the vehicle has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the investigation.
Indiana State Police will be investigating the crash portion of the investigation.
