Suspect in 2023 murder enters guilty plea agreement for lesser offense

Dawson Mahoney LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Court documents from La Porte County reveal Dawson Mahoney entered a guilty plea in connection with the Oct. 19, 2023, death of 25-year-old Travis S. Clemons, of Michigan City.
Mahoney was initially charged with Murder but entered a plea agreement on Nov. 20 for the lesser offense of Voluntary Manslaughter, a Level 2 Felony.
Mahoney's jury trial was supposed to begin Monday, Dec. 8.
His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2026.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office say on Oct. 19, 2023, they found Clemons lying motionless at a residence in the 8600 West block of CR 400 North.
Deputies were dispatched around 8:37 p.m., to a residence in reference to a battery. While responding, deputies were advised a subject had possibly been struck by a vehicle.
Captain Andy Hynek was the first to arrive on scene when he located Clemons lying motionless near a vehicle.
