Sturgis Firefighters rescue resident and cat from house fire

STURGIS, Mich. -- A resident was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation and cat was rescued and revived following a house fire on Sunday, according to the Sturgis Department of Public Safety.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 1100 block of Meadow Lane for a fire in the attached garage Sunday at approximately 1:45 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found the garage fully involved with the fire extending in to the attic of the home.

One of the residents was inside the home and taken by ambulance to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

A cat was found inside the home and revived, firefighters said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Michigan State Police, Tri-township Fire, St. Joe County Victims services and LifeCare Ambulance assisted at the scene.
