Steph Curry's Underrated Golf Tour completes their Notre Dame stop
SOUTH BEND, Ind – Two winners earn an automatic bid to the Curry Cup after day two in Michiana.
Of the 96 participants, one boy and one girl earn an automatic spot as one of the 12 finalists in the Curry Cup, by winning a single stop on the tour. A total of four stops, sends 8 of the 24 best players to Paramus, New Jersey for a chance at the Curry Cup.
In day two of the tour at Warren Golf Course, you could see the confidence and experience, players gained through the Underrated program.
Coming down to hole 18, 15 year old Catherine Andino was named one of the four girls heading to the east coast.
"It feels really good. I had a lot of good finishes this year. Haven't got a win yet. So it's feels really good," Andino said.
" I stayed focused today I played pretty boring golf. But that's what got the job done. So looking forward to doing that the next challenge," Andino added.
Andino was afforded the access, equity, and opportunity, which are the three pillars of Underrated Golf.
Nobody knows that more than Jaden Soong. Soong, won of the three stops last year, placed top five in the Curry Cup in 2023, and after earning a win at Notre Dame on the tour's third stop, the 14-year-old is headed back to the Cup for a chance at winning it all.
"I love playing golf. I mean, it's, you know, I've been playing since I was two years old. My dad introduced me to the came when we were in our backyard. So, I've been playing for quite a bit of time. At least for my age, and, you know, it's just been amazing, you know, I get to meet all these great people and underrated has been giving us the opportunity to access to play on courses like this. And especially in front of the college. I mean, that's, that's pretty special," Soong said.
"I think a lot of it's mental, like mentality, like, how are you going out there? And how are you focusing? Like, how are you if you have a bad hole? How are you going to make up for it? I mean, I think at the level right, all of our games are good enough to play on courses like this, but then I feel like it's just the mentality that you know, will produce the winner," Soong added.
