South Bend Venues Parks and Arts to host Kids Triathlon, registration open
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Venues Parks and Arts will host the 2024 Kids Triathlon for children 5 to 14, at Riley High School on Saturday, July 20, at 8 a.m.
Organizers say this will be a fun and challenging triathlon for your kids to compete in.
Kids will swim, bike, and run to the finish line, after which they can enjoy activities inside the track, support and congratulate fellow racers, and attend the awards ceremony for winners of each age division.
Organizers say the event aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for children throughout northern Indiana.
The triathlon features a 50-yard swim, 1.3-mile bike ride, and half mile run. Age groups 5 to 6 and 7 to 8 will be participate in a 25-yard swim.
There will be one swimmer per lane, per wave, and lifeguards will be on duty and in the water to ensure safety.
Officials say for ages 5 to 8, one guardian per swimmer is allowed on the pool deck.
Proceeds benefit SBVPA's Youth Scholarship Program. You can register your kids here. The deadline to register is Friday, July 19, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
Children of all ages and abilities may use flotation devices and training wheels in the triathlon.
For safety, organizers ask you to refrain from using inflatable life jackets and water wings.
There will also be coastguard-approved life jackets provided by SBVPA.
For the biking portion of the triathlon, helmets are required for all ages.
Each athlete will receive a medal after crossing the finish line at the end of the running portion.
The top six athletes in each age group will receive a trophy.
Packet Pickup Information can be picked up on Friday, July 19, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Riley High School.
Riley High School is located at 1902 Fellows St. in South Bend.
The rain date is scheduled for Sunday, July 21.
