Costello wins District 2 seat on South Bend school board

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Three seats were open for districts 1, 2, and 5 in the South Bend Community School Corporation School Board.

Kate Lee won in district 1. She is currently the Executive Director for Education and Workforce and has served on the South Bend Education Foundation Board and Career and Technical Education Advisory Board. Her children went through the South Bend Community School Corporation.

Mark Costello won the District 2 seat with 48% of the vote. He ran against Laquita Hughes, Oletha L. Jones, and Gabrel Kempf.

Costello is currently a retired public-school educator and previously held positions as teacher, school administrator and principal in different school districts. He spent 51 years in the education field.

Running for open seats in district 5 are Stuart Greene and Robert Smith.

Greene is a current school board trustee. He received his Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon.

Smith retired in June 2022 after 42 years as a school administrator, holding the position of assistant principal. He earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Notre Dame and his master's degree at Indiana University.
