Police seek help in case of stolen catalytic converters from Michigan City school buses

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department reports an officer responded to the Michigan City Area Schools Transportation Department on S. Woodland Avenue around 5:35 a.m. Tuesday for a report of 20 to 25 catalytic converters being stolen from school buses.
Upon arrival, the officer was informed during the overnight hours that the Transportation Department property was unlawfully entered at which point the thefts occurred.
The theft was discovered as transportation staff began preparations for daily bus operations.
Police say while this crime caused disruption to the bus fleet, Michigan City Area Schools is working to minimize the impact on student transportation.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time.
