South Bend Medical Foundation will test blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—Starting October 19, blood donations that are collected by the South Bend Medical Foundation’s donation centers will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies.

The extra test allows for the South Bend Medical Foundation to identify and recruit potential convalescent plasma donors, which is plasma that has been used to help COVID-19 patients with severe symptoms, according to the foundation.

Donors who complete a blood donation can expect to receive antibody results via email about 7 to 10 days after donating blood.

Donations can be made by appointment only and can be scheduled at GiveBloodNow.com or by calling 574-234-1157.
