South Bend man sentenced for theft and ordered to pay restitution

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The United States Attorney’s Office Northern District of Indiana announced 50-year-old Jake Gregory Aarreberg, of South Bend, was sentenced after pleading guilty to theft of government funds.

Aarreberg was sentenced to two years of probation with eight months home detention.

He was ordered to pay $226,389.56 in restitution to the victims.

According to documents, from 2005 to 2023, Aarreberg falsely claimed to be a disabled military veteran and presented fraudulent military service records to obtain government benefits.

Aarreberg obtained VA medical benefits because of his fraud, totaling over $96,000, and Social Security disability benefits totaling over $129,000.
