ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Hundreds of tax warrants were recently sent to St. Joseph County residents leading some to question is they're legitimate.

The St. Joseph County Police Department made a social media post clarifying the tax warrants are real but noted it is good to question any unexpected request for money.

Residents should always make sure such requests are legitimate before paying, police say.

There are three ways to pay, but none of the options include gift cards of any kind or Bitcoin.

The notice includes the correct address for making the payment and the phone number to call with any questions.

Each tax warrant will include important information such as the warrant number, tax type, daily interest accruing each day until amount is paid, and the total amount of money due.
